Score: High Point 65, Davidson 76
Records: High Point (10-2), Davidson (8-4, 1-0)
Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "Davidson's a really good team. They do a lot of things well, they shoot the ball well and are able to attack you inside. They tried to use their height against us, but we put them at the free throw line too much. We made some defensive breakdowns to our game plan that we can't do against a team as good as they are and still expect to win. We are going to clean some things up. We have another game on Saturday, but we're going to be a much better version of ourselves."
The Panthers battled early and traded leads throughout the opening quarter, closing the period with an 18-17 edge after strong finishes inside from
Nevaeh Zavala and
Macy Spencer. High Point continued to hang tough in the second quarter, but Davidson used an efficient offensive stretch late in the half to take a 35-29 lead into the break.
High Point opened the third quarter with momentum, as
Brecken Snotherly and Zavala scored on back-to-back possessions to pull the Panthers within two.
Dom Nesland later connected from beyond the arc to tie the game at 41, but Davidson answered with a run, pushing its lead to double digits heading into the fourth.
The Panthers showed fight down the stretch, with Spencer scoring in the paint and at the free-throw line to keep High Point within striking distance. However, Davidson capitalized at the line and from the perimeter to secure the win.
Spencer led High Point with 19 points, while Zavala added 15.
Aaliyah Collins contributed nine points and a team-high nine assists.
Up Next: High Point will return to the Qubein Center to close out the non-conference slate when they host Yale University on Saturday, December 20 at 12:00 p.m.
