HPU Men's Basketball to Participate in Hickory Hoops Classic at Lenoir-Rhyne’s Shuford Memorial Arena

High Point & App State Will Square Off at Neutral Site for Second Consecutive Season

HICKORY, N.C. – The High Point University men's basketball team will square off with Appalachian State University for the second consecutive year on December 14. This year the teams will play at Lenoir-Rhyne's Shuford Memorial Arena in the second installment of the Hickory Hoops Classic.

More information about purchasing tickets for the Hickory Hoops Classic will be announced at a later date.

The two teams met in Greensboro last year, tipping off at Novant Health Fieldhouse, the home of the NBA G League's Greensboro Swarm. Last year's matchup was the first since 2012 as HPU defeated ASU 65-59 after going down 15 points in the first half. Separated by just 104 miles, this will be the 88th meeting between the teams since the 1930-31 season (according to High Point's records). HPU holds the overall record of 54-33.

App State finished the 2024-25 season with a 17-14 overall record and a 10-8 record in the Sun Belt league. Ahead of the 2025-26 season, the Mountaineers were picked No. 7 in the Sun Belt Preseason Awards with transfer junior guard Eren Banks being named to the second team.

High Point will open the season on November 3rd in Rock Hill, S.C. at the Field of 68 Opening Day Marathon against Furman University. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Hill Sportsplex. The first chance for fans to see the 2025-26 team in action at the Qubein Center is on November 8 at 7:00 p.m. as the Panthers welcome Averett University to High Point.
