CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the second time this season, High Point University's
Josh Caron and
Lukas Kamrath have respectively earned Big South Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Kamrath scored the game winner from just past midfield to help No. 8 High Point clinch the outright Big South regular-season championship on Saturday at Gardner-Webb in the 3-0 victory. With first place in the conference standings on the line, he converted a free kick in the 21st minute after faking out defenders to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The redshirt sophomore recorded two shots while playing the full 90 minutes.
Caron posted a shutout with six saves, including a penalty-kick stop with nine seconds remaining before halftime to preserve High Point's clean sheet against Gardner-Webb. The redshirt junior denied the penalty attempt with a diving save in the 45th minute to help the Panthers maintain a 1-0 lead at the break. Caron faced 12 shots overall and made three saves in each half as HPU secured its third consecutive regular-season title.
Caron and Kamrath receive their second accolade, alike teammates
Prosper Adagani and
Daniel Lugo, as the duo are joined by previous honorees:
Brendan Krueger and
Mo Guettel.
The Panthers travel to Davidson for a mid-week clash on Tuesday, October 28 at 7 p.m.
