HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's soccer team played to 1-1 draw with Davidson College on Tuesday night at Vert Stadium.
Site: Vert Stadium
Score: High Point 1, Davidson 1
Records: High Point (0-1-1), Davidson (0-1-1)
Head Coach Zach Haines: "It's a disappointing night for sure. We must be better, and we didn't have the right approach in the first half. We just wasted time in the game. Credit to Davidson, they knew what they needed to do and to kill the game off, play direct and earn restarts all while defending a lot. They got the goal they needed off a corner kick so that's two in two games for us in that department. We are still figuring things out with a lot of new faces, youth and inexperience but that is not an excuse. We did not do the things that we needed to do coming into tonight, in terms of priorities."
The first 45 minutes of play was a little slow as neither team could get a shot off. HPU and Davidson only managed to fire off one shot a piece and no corner kicks.
Play didn't start to pick up until five minutes into the second half as
Anthony Ramirez fired off a shot that went just right. That started a sequence that inevitably went HPU's way as
Brendan Krueger netted his second goal of the season off a header to give a one goal lead to the Panthers in the 55th minute.
Mohammed Seidu placed a perfect ball in the center of the box as Krueger got a head on it to send it to the back of the net.
The next five minutes of play was dominated by the Wildcats. Their time of possession led to a corner kick in the final seconds of the 58th minute, leading to a game tying goal by Eamon Moylan.
HPU created a few chances in the remaining 25 minutes of play but was unable to pull through with the go-ahead goal.
Up Next: High Point will travel to Richmond, Va. to take on No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth University on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
