Records: High Point (14-15, 4-2), App State (18-8, 5-4)
Head Coach Joey Hammond: "We simply were outplayed and beaten by a better team tonight, that happens. I thought we did a great job of responding to the early deficit and climbed our way back in the game with the momentum in the 4th inning and a chance to tie or take the lead. But we failed to execute a couple at bats and then they capitalized on a handful of pitches we left in the middle of the zone to put us away. We will have two good practice days and head to Asheville where we have a chance to start another string of good Panthers baseball."
In what was a bullpen game for High Point,
Bryan Rivera got the start on the mound and got hit early. He pitched one inning, allowing four runs, on four hits.
Howell Polk,
Jake Potts,
Dalton Olsovsky,
Tyler Romanias,
Adam Grintz, and
Sean Duffy all saw action on the mound.
The Mountaineers jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the first inning.
High Point closed the lead in the top of the second as
Justin Ruiz sent a SAC fly to right field allowing
Brayden Simpson to tag from third. The second run of the inning came home with runners on the corners as
Dawson Harman swiped second and drew the throw to allow
Miggy Echazarreta to cross the plate.
In the third, the Panthers made it a one run ball game after Simpson sent one to the right field corner sending
Cael Chatham first to home.
App State answered in the fourth as they put five runs on the board to make it a 9-3 game. The Mountaineers tallied two more runs in the fifth to push it to an 11-3 score.
Both teams put up goose eggs in the remaining four innings to give App State the 11-3 win on Tuesday night.
