BOSTON, Mass. -- The finalists for the 2023-24 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award have been announced, naming High Point men's basketball player
Juslin Bodo Bodo to the selection. The award is presented annually to the top freshman in division I college basketball. Bodo Bodo is one of 30 recipients on the National Freshman All-America team.

The Big South Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year started all 35 games this season for the Panthers. In his 23.7 minutes per game, he averaged 6.8 points and led the team and the Big South with 9.5 rebounds per game. He finished second in the league in blocked shots averaging 1.8 per game. He totaled six double-doubles and scored a season-high 18 points at Gardner-Webb (Feb. 10). He also recorded a season-high and tied the Big South Tournament record with 19 rebounds in the quarterfinals against Radford (Mar. 8). He registered 10+ rebounds in 17 games this season along with 3+ blocks in 10 games. Bodo Bodo was also named to the Big South All-Freshman team following the regular season and was named the Big South Freshman of the Week on nine occasions, breaking the HPU program and Big South records for most freshman of the week honors in a single season.

The award is named for a guard who starred as a freshman for Purdue. The 1975 Indiana Mr. Basketball, Kyle Macy played his freshman season at Purdue University, averaging 13.8 points per game while leading the Boilermakers in free throws (85.9 percent for the season). He started in 25 of 27 games, helping them to a 16-11 season record.
The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.
The 2024 award will be announced in Phoenix, AZ, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
