Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Certainly disappointed about how the series finished up Saturday and Sunday. But to come into this type of atmosphere and come away with one win is a starting point for our club. Friday night was a blueprint for success. We played flawless defense, had timidly hits, and our pitchers attacked the strike zone from the first to the last pitch. That type of performance will win almost every time. After a shaky start on Saturday, we fought to be within a couple runs in the mid innings before the dam of free bases (walks) caught up to us and the game got away. Today, we didn't compete from the first pitch we threw and that set the tone for a landslide. We will regroup and head to Knoxville where we have another opportunity vs a top-10 team on Tuesday."
Konni Durschlag extended his hit streak to three games as he got a base knock to give HPU its first hit of the game. Durschlag leads the team in batting average as he has a .419 average after going 1-2 in today's game.
With
Cael Chatham up to bat in the third, Durschlag crossed the plate on a passed ball.
Xavier Cumbee got his first hit of the season as he doubled to left field in the fifth inning.
Miggy Echazarreta also recorded his first hit of the year as he beat out a ground ball hit to second base in the sixth inning.
Charlie Klingler reached on a fielder's choice to second as Ahalt would come in to score for High Point.
Howell Polk got the start for the Panthers.
Adam Grintz,
Joey Tuttoilmondo,
Bryan Rivera,
Sean Duffy,
Braden Halladay, and
Liam Diehl all saw action on the mound for High Point.
Up Next: High Point stays on the road as they have a 4:30 p.m. matchup with No. 9 Tennessee in Knoxville on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
