High Point, N.C. – The High Point University men's lacrosse team hosted the No. 2 ranked team in the country on Saturday afternoon at Vert Stadium. Taking on the Duke Blue Devils, the Panthers fell 21-9.
Tommy Meehan and
Matt Lutzel combined for four of the nine goals scored by the Panthers while three other payers contributed two points apiece.

The teams got off to a quick start in net, combining for three goals in the first four minutes of action. Duke punched first with a goal from Charles Balsamo but the Panthers responded with two back-to-back goals from
Nick Murphy and Meehan to go up 2-1.
Luca Accardo did his part on the face-off battle after the goal from Murphy to lead to the Meehan goal.
The Blue Devils registered four goals to go up 5-2, but
Justin Wixted netted a goal with three minutes left in the first to make it 5-3.
Entering the second quarter down 8-3, High Point out scored Duke with two goals to the Blue Devils' one. Meehan collected his second goal of the day while
Collin Cooke collected his first.
High Point trailed 9-5 going into the third quarter. Duke found a hot streak and scored seven straight goals to extend the game to 16-5.
Brayden Mayea found the back of the net with five minutes left in the quarter on an assist from Wixted.
With work to do in the fourth, the Panthers were only able to score three more goals before the final horn, falling 21-9. Lutzel and
Nick Rizzo scored the final two goals in the last seven minutes of the game after face-off wins from Accardo and
Collin Hoben.

High Point remains at home to host Virginia Military Institute on Friday, February 16 at Vert Stadium for a night game at 6:00 p.m.
