Score: High Point 46, Austin Peay 59

Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "Hats off to Austin Peay, they came in and were ready to go from the jump. They shot the ball extremely well today, threw us off our game a bit with their zone. They play zone 1% of the time so they threw us off with that, but we must be ready for anything. We must execute better effort. They shot 50% from the field. We can't let kids get in a rhythm and we got to try to take them out of what they do. They did a good job of getting the shots they wanted."
The Governors started hot right out of the gate as they were able to find the basket. Austin Peay went on an 13-0 run midway through the first quarter to an 11-point lead. A bucket by
Shakira Baskerville and a good three pointer from
Nakyah Terrell cut the Governor lead to six with just about a minute to go in the first quarter. A good three from Austin Peay followed by a Baskerville layup in the paint took High Point to the second quarter down seven, 20-13.
High Point came out with a good layup by Baskerville to cut the lead to five to begin the second quarter. The Governors then took their lead to 10, 25-15, before
Aaliyah Collins drove to the basket for two points with about 5:30 left in the half. The Governors controlled the ball the last five minutes as the Panthers struggled to score another point. Austin Peay took a 17-point lead to the break.
Collins kickstarted the scoring for HPU in the second half before Austin Peay went back-to-back from behind the arc to take a 18-point lead. Austin Peay took its biggest lead of the game with a 21-point deficit after a pair of free throws were knocked down. High Point crawled back a tad as
Lauren Scott drained a three ball from the wing to cut the lead to 15. The Governors went cold the final two minutes as HPU managed to head into the fourth quarter down 13, 49-36.
Scott started the fourth quarter as she dropped another three to cut the lead to ten. The Governors took the lead right back to 14 before Baskerville banked in a three and a layup to come within single digits, 53-44. Another layup and a three pointer from Austin Peay put them right back to a double-digit lead that was good enough to hold off the Panthers for the win.
Baskerville led the team with 15 points as she was 7-for-9 from the field in 24 minutes on the court.
Up Next: High Point will get some rest during the holiday's before returning to action on January 2 as they start conference play at Radford University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
