Score: High Point 54, West Virginia 89

Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "West Virginia is a good team. They turn you over and turn those turnovers into points very quickly. The second half, our girls stepped in and were finally ready to shoot. That is what we talked about, catch it, and be ready to shoot it. We did a few things that weren't necessary with the game plan, but the girls that came in did what I wanted, they executed and shot the ball."
High Point got off to a slow start in the first half as the Mountaineers kept piling on shots. West Virginia forced turnovers and took advantage of High Point's mistakes. The Panthers started to hit a stride and found momentum in the second half as they were able to knock down some three pointers to add to their point total.
The third quarter for High Point went a lot better than the first half as the team shot 40% from the field as they started knocking down a few.
Aaliyah Collins found her way to the basket a few times in the third to add to HPU's total. The Mountaineers led, 62-31 after 30 minutes of play.
HPU went on to have a pretty good fourth quarter as more shots started to fall. Shooting 61.54% from the field as
Emma Larios and
Olivia Medford both drained three pointers.
Chana Paxixe nailed a three with one second left on the clock to close out the first game of the Gulf Coast Showcase for HPU.
Aaliyah Collins led the team with 11 points as she went 4-for-7 from the field in 23 minutes on the court.
Up Next: High Point will face Illinois State at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 30 at the Hertz Arena.
