Site: Gore Arena
Score: High Point 47, Campbell 60
Records: High Point (2-2), Campbell (2-1)
Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "Campbell showed up ready to play and they played very well. They were able to take us out of what we wanted to do, and we got stagnant. I'm really happy with that last group I had in though they showed a lot of fight."
The reigning Big South Freshman of the Week,
Dom Nesland, led the team with 10 points, while
Shakira Baskerville managed to pull in seven rebounds in tonight's match with the Camels.
High Point led by seven after the first quarter, 11-8, as Nesland drained a three pointer, and buckets by
Nevaeh Zavala, Anna Hager,
Aaliyah Collins, and Baskerville rounded out the first 10 minutes.
The Camels went on a 9-0 run in the second quarter which put them up at the half by one, 25-24. After the break, Campbell never looked back as High Point started to struggle. The Camels stretched its lead to double digits after three straight triples from Courtney Dahlquist. HPU brought it back to within nine from a good layup by Zavala, but the Camels kept pushing and took the lead to 12, 42-30 heading into the fourth.
HPU struggled to score in the fourth as they didn't find the net until the six-minute mark in the quarter which allowed Campbell to extend the lead to 22 at that point. The lead got to 24 before
Lauren Scott drained a few from beyond the arc to cut it down.
Peyton Gerdes,
Chana Paxixe, and
Emma Larios made an appearance late in the fourth and showed some fight. Paxixe made a layup within the final seconds of the game to bring the Camel lead to 13 as the final buzzer sounded.
Up Next: High Point will return to the Qubein Center on Sunday, November 17 as they welcome University of Denver for the first time in program history. Tip is set for 12:00 p.m.
