Panthers Fall to Top-Ranked Bluejays

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The High Point University volleyball team returned to action at the Diet Coke Classic on Friday night against another top-15 opponent, Creighton University. The Panthers were unable to steal a set and fell after three.

Following the Diet Coke Classic, Christine Graf was named to the All-Tournament team.

Site: Maturi Pavilion
Score: High Point 0, No. 14 Creighton 3
Records: High Point (6-5), Creighton (8-2)

It was a competitive first set between the Panthers and Bluejays. Matching up for the first time in each program's history, High Point stayed neck and neck through the first 36 points with Creighton. After a 6-2 run for HPU, the game tied up at 18 all following a service error by the Bluejays. Unable to continue the run, Creighton took set one 25-21.

Dylan Maberry did not have her usual night on the outside pin, but teammates Graf and Jayde Shelton helped pick up the slack, combining for 12 kills to lead the team. Shelton led the attack with a .364 hit percentage (5-for-11) through the first two sets.

The Panthers struggled to connect on the block in the second set, resulting in multiple points for the Bluejays. Down by six at 16-10, the Panthers could not get the momentum rolling and allowed Creighton to score five straight points from kills to extend the gap and take another set.

The third set was a tough one for High Point. Not able to get the hits to fall, the Panthers stayed aggressive but did not have enough in the tank to overcome the deficit.

UP NEXT:
The Panthers remain on the road this weekend as the team travels to No. 8 Pitt to take on some more Panthers. The first serve is set for 1:00 pm.
