HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's basketball team has announced a non-conference slate for the 2023-24 season that will bring a lot of excitement on and off the court. The Panthers will host eight games at the Nido & Mariana Qubein Arena before turning the calendars to the new year.
Along with the non-conference home schedule, HPU will hit the road for six away games, including a ticket to the U.S. Virgin Islands during Thanksgiving for a three-game slate in the Paradise Jam Tournament.
In the season opener, the Panthers open the doors on November 3 for the Bulldogs of Barton College. A Division II university in Wilson, North Carolina. Just a few days later, HPU hits the road to take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech on November 6 for the first time in Blacksburg, Va., since 2017.
Coming into the weeks before Thanksgiving, HPU heads into a three-game stint at home at the Qubein Arena. Starting off the home stretch with a matchup against Lee's McRae an opponent who the Panthers have yet to see on November 11. Making the trip from sunny Florida, is Stetson University on November 14. The last time the Panthers played the Hatters was back in 2017 when HPU traveled to DeLand, Florida and won by a score of 69-54. Closing out the home stand on November 17 against Wofford before beginning their trip to the Paradise Jam.
Heading down to the Caribbean, the bracket consists of two different tournaments: Island and Reef. The Island bracket consists of Cincinnati, Colorado, Kentucky, and NC State. The Reef tournament is made up with Texas, High Point, Arizona State, and South Florida. HPU will be representing the Big South in three guaranteed games in the Paradise Jam going up against South Florida at 6:45 p.m. on November 23. In the second game the Panthers go up against the Texas Longhorns at 9 p.m. on the 24th. The third game comes on Saturday the 25th as the Panthers matchup with the Sun Devils of Arizona State at 6:45 p.m. The Reef Tournament champion will be crowned after the final game.
Wrapping up the month of November, the Panthers host Johnson C. Smith on the 30th. A Division II private university in Charlotte, North Carolina will be making their debut here on campus as it'll be the first matchup between both programs.
Heading into the winter months, the Panthers take a trip to the Rocky Mountains to face the Colorado State Rams on December 3. This is the first meeting between the two. A few days after their arrival back in North Carolina, Davidson College hosts HPU for a matchup with the Wildcats on the 8th.
In the final weeks of the 2023 calendar year, the Panthers host three games at the Qubein Arena. Norfolk State University comes to town on the 18th for their third time in High Point. A team the Panthers know very well, the Camels of Campbell make their way over on the 21st. The Panthers hold a 18-13 record over the Camels. The non-conference regular season action finishes up in the Qubein Arena with a matchup against Elon on December 30.
