HARRISONBURG, Va. – The High Point University volleyball team took on Ohio University Sunday morning in the final game at the JMU Invitational. After putting up a good fight with the Bobcats, the Panthers fell 3-1.

All four sets were a challenge for both teams as the lead was on a continuous exchange throughout the match. The match witnessed 35 tie-ups and 13 lead exchanges, as High Point led at some point in every set with its largest lead of four in sets one and two.

Maberry had her best set offensively in set two, registering eight kills for a .333 hit percentage. Christine Graf also turned it on in the second set, adding in four kills from the right side. Her big hit at the end of the set helped push the Panthers to the 25-22 set win. HPU chipped away one play at a time to gain back even status in the match at 1-1.

In set three High Point trailed through majority of the set, tying it at 17 all with a kill from Maberry but a stretch of errors advanced the Bobcats on a 22-18 lead. A kill from Eve Wilson was not enough to close the game which put Ohio ahead 2-1 in sets.

HPU needed a rally in set four to force a fifth set. Starting out strong in the set High Point held the lead through the Panthers first 12 points. Jayde Shelton picked up points on the right side while Wilson and Graf also tallied kills in the mix.

Taking it down to the wire, the game was tied up at 22-22 with a Graf kill. The Bobcats took the one-point edge at 23-22 before taking a two-point advantage on an HPU error. Maberry's outside kill kept the Panthers in reach, but with the match point on the line a kill from Ohio put the game away.

UP NEXT: The Panthers hit the runway for a trip up to Army West Point to compete in the Army Invitational. The invitational is set to start Thursday August 31 and continues through Saturday September 2.
