Horn, Vesper both earn All-American status

AUSTIN, Texas - High Point Women's Track & Field's two pole-vaulters, Sydney Horn and Rachel Vesper both earned All-American honors under the lights at the Mike A. Meyers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin.

Horn finished fifth with a mark of 4.30 meters earning a spot on the first team All-American stage. Vesper earned second team All-American honors in her first-ever NCAA Outdoor Championship appearance placing ninth with a mark of 4.15m.

Horns fifth-place finish was a program best for her fifth first team All-American honor.

Coach Scott Houston: "Well first off to bring two girls to the outdoor national championships two years in a row is a feet in itself, so I'm excited to keep that going. Being able to hold onto the end of the outdoor season and to compete well at the National Championship just makes a difference. Getting here is one thing but then competing to what you are capable of and show it in the competition is something that a lot of people can struggle with and they both did a wonderful job. Finishing ninth and fifth is nothing to be ashamed of."

Jump by Jump
Horn started things off with the opening jump of the meet, clearing the 4.00m bar with ease to set the tone.

Twenty-two vaulters later, Vesper followed up Horn's clear with her own clear on the first attempt.

Both moved on to the second bar which was set at 4.15m. Horn missed her first attempt but successfully cleared the height on her second attempt.

Vesper continued her first attempt clears and moved past 4.15m with a narrowed field to finish ninth overall in her first ever NCAA Outdoor Championship.

At the 4.30m height, Horn cleared on her first attempt to move on to the fourth bar of the evening.

Horn missed her first chance at 4.40m so she decided to pass on to 4.45m where she could use her two remaining chances on the next bar. Despite a strong last attempt Horn was unable to advance. She finished fifth overall.
