Panthers Extend Winning Streak on Senior Day

HIGH POINT, N.C.- High Point women's lacrosse wrapped up its regular season with a big win on senior day Saturday afternoon at Vert Stadium. The Panthers honored three graduate students: Mena Loescher, Emma Genovese, and Jenna Kraft and nine seniors: Sadie Coachman, Devin Taulane, Kristen Kucia, Liz Meister, Ava Scudillo, Emma Eustace, Emma Nowakowski, Lexi Jack, and Taylor Suplee.

The Panthers' fifth straight win was jump started with the program's 11th annual Mason Run that benefits the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. For more information, visit the team's GoFundMe page HERE.

"This day is always super rewarding," Jack said. "Friends of Jaclyn are such a near and dear cause to all of our hearts. Even though none of us knew Mason personally, having the opportunity to carry on his legacy and the impact that he made on the original High Point team is really special to us.

"It was awesome to start our morning with something bigger than lacrosse. It was really rewarding. Getting the big win at the end of the day to celebrate my senior class brought everything together."

Coach Boswell: "I am really happy for these seniors. They're moving on into the real world and I'm just really grateful for all that they have given to our program and happy to get this win at home. We have found success in a lot of different ways these past few weeks and now we are focused on the postseason and are very excited about the tournament next weekend."

The Panthers and Runnin' Bulldogs held their ground defensively, as both teams were scoreless for the first ten minutes of the contest. Kay Rosselli converted on a late free-position goal and the two teams would go into the second quarter with a score of 2-1.

After a quiet first 15, Genovese and Brockamp turned up the heat, putting two in the back of the net, responding to efforts by Gardner-Webb to keep it close.

A Lexi Jack draw-control led to a Cha goal and a man-up opportunity was seized by Miles to tally her first of the afternoon.

Heading into the half, the Runnin' Bulldogs led by one goal. Sadie Coachman made four saves and five different Panthers contributed a goal.

The second goal for Miles came within the first few minutes of the third, followed by a wrap-around laser from Shannon Smith. Mena Loescher then scored her first of the night to take the lead.

A hard ride, steal, and score from Cha grew the deficit to two and High Point would not trail at all for the remaining 17 minutes. A dominant drive down the lane notched Mackie Scheib her first goal of the year and it was all gas and no brakes from there.

Miles netted a hat-trick and Grace Bruce, assisted by Nowakowski, scored her ninth of the season. Smith and Cavallaro ended the scoring night, securing the seventh Big South win for High Point.

"Jordi is putting in so much work off the field and today she was huge for us" Boswell said.

Eleven Panthers contributed points on the day. Smith and Miles both notched four points for the Panthers —Miles with three goals and an assist, Smith with two goals and two assists. Genovese tallied seven draw controls at the center circle, while also adding a goal and three ground balls.

Defensively, Suplee made five second-half saves and Lexi Jack led with two caused turnovers.

UP NEXT: The Panthers will compete in the Big South Tournament next Friday, May 5th. Seeding and location will be announced early next week on our website.
