High Point Adds Corey Edwards to Men's Basketball Staff

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University Head Men's Basketball Coach Alan Huss announced his second hire to the 2023-24 staff with the addition of assistant coach Corey Edwards on Monday.

"I am incredibly excited to add Corey Edwards to our coaching staff," Huss said. "Corey and I took similar paths to college basketball through the prep school and grassroots levels. His experiences have created deep and meaningful relationships along the east coast and across the country that will be critical in attracting talented student athletes to HPU.  Corey and I worked together at Creighton, and I saw firsthand his ability to teach, mentor and build championship culture.  Most importantly, Corey's values align perfectly with our values at HPU."

Edwards joins the staff after spending the 2022-23 season as the men's basketball assistant coach at Drake University. Edwards helped guide the Bulldogs to an overall record of 27-8 with a 15-5 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. Overall, Drake finished second in the MVC regular season behind Bradley University. The Bulldogs defeated Bradley in the MVC conference tournament, receiving a first-round bid into the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament as a No.12 seed.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to build with Coach Huss," Edwards stated. "He is an inspiring example, mentor and leader of men. We are excited to positively impact young men while upholding a standard of excellence on and off the court at High Point University".

Prior to Drake, Edwards worked alongside the Creighton men's basketball staff and served as a graduate assistant. During the 2021-22 season, he helped the Bluejays to the NCAA Tournament round of 32.

Edwards spent the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach at The Patrick School in Hillside, N.J. He also served as an assistant coach and skill development trainer for Montverde Academy from 2019-20, where he aided Montverde to a MaxPreps National Championship. Prior to Montverde Academy he spent the previous three summers training and developing professional athletes.

A native of New York City, Edwards played and started 62 games at George Mason University from 2011-15. In his final two seasons, he was named a team captain for the Patriots before graduating with a bachelor's degree in sport management.
