Score: High Point 3, No. 2 Wake Forest 12
Records: High Point (7-16, 1-5 Big South), Wake Forest (23-3, 7-2 ACC)
Wake Forest struck first in their opening at bat, scoring two runs off one hit. After walking in the first run with bases loaded, the Panthers turned a double play to get the first two outs, as the Demon Deacons snuck in their second run of the day from third base.
Seeing déjà vu from the week before,
Brett Ahalt led off the Panthers at the plate with a home run on the first pitch, repeating what he did at Virginia. Ahalt is one run shy from leading the team in home runs with
Blake Sutton, registering his ninth on the year.
With the score 2-1 going into the second, Wake Forest made moves in the next two innings. Sneaking in a run in the top of the second along with two home runs and a wild pitch in the top of the third to create a 6-1 lead for the Demon Deacons.
Keeping the home run streak alive, both
Charlie Klingler and
Cael Chatham sent one deep in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to close the game to 6-3.
Wake Forest opened the top of the fifth with a home run after an unlucky bounce off Klingler's glove at the top of the left field fence. The Demon Deacons advanced to a 9-3 lead.
The Panthers could only register three hits through their final five innings while the Demon Deacons add three more runs before the final out of the game.
In High Point's last five games, the team has scored 11 of the 15 runs off home runs.
Up Next: The Panthers hit the road for their first away Big South conference series at Longwood. The series will begin on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
