Gus Hughes started the game on the mound for the Panthers, allowing just two runs through his six innings pitched. He started the afternoon off with two strikeouts in the top of the first which fired up the team at the plate.
HPU pinned the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Fields singled into right field to get on at first. Making his way over to second on a stolen base, Stuart sent a deep shot into left center field, giving Fields enough time to cross home plate.
Taking their first and only lead of the game on the top of the second, a triple to right field for Presbyterian gave the Blue Hose a 2-1 advantage.
Sutton did not let Presbyterian hold the lead for longer as he sank his ninth homerun of the year over right center field. The solo shot tied the game at two all.
The bottom of the fourth witnessed a lot of action at the plate for High Point as the team scored three runs off two hits. Chatham led off the inning with a double to left center field, but he did not stand on second for long as Stuart followed up with hit up the middle to score the Panthers third run of the game and take the 3-2 lead. The next two runs for HPU were unearned due to two fielding errors by the Blue Hose.
The Panthers kept the momentum going, scoring in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to go up 9-3. In the top of the seventh, HPU let in one run for PC after walking four straight batters. A ground out to the Panthers first basemen led to an easy third out tag to get out of the inning.
The Panthers added two more to the board after a misjudgment by the Blue Hose's center fielder led to a triple for Fields. The High Point defense held Presbyterian to just two more runs before the last out of the game. The Panthers walked away with the 11-6 victory in the final game of the series.
Up Next: The Panthers travel to the University of Virginia on Tuesday afternoon for a mid-week non-conference matchup with the Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m.
