Head coach
Jon Torpey: "We ran into a very well-coached, talented, and hungry team today, and we struggled mightily in all facets of the game. Anytime the possessions are tilted 21-10 in a half, and you have to play that amount of defense against a talented offense it's going to be tough to get into any rhythm. I enjoyed watching the guys compete in the second half and even the possessions out, but it was too late. We have a lot of work to do in a short period of time. I look forward to seeing how our guys respond."
Georgetown scored six unanswered goals to start the game before Mayea put HPU on the board on the find from
Nick Rizzo. Mayea found
Jack VanOverbeke just over a minute later to get the Panthers back within 6-2 with 3:18 left in the first period.
High Point was first to strike in the second quarter as VanOverbeke found Mayea cutting to the crease. Falling to the ground, Mayea finished with a behind-the-back goal to bring HPU back within 7-3.
The Hoyas kept the Panthers off the board for the remainder of the half, holding a commanding 13-3 lead at the break. They scored the next three of the second half before HPU posted a 3-0 run of its own. Mayea had two in the run while
Conor Guiltinan tallied his first goal in the Purple and White to make it a 16-6 game.
Georgetown went on a 6-1 run spanning the end of the third quarter and into the fourth as
Jaxson Lamb broke up the scoring with a goal at the end of the third period.
High Point finished the game with three unanswered goals from VanOverbeke,
Caison Dillon, and
Ryan Hynes.
