Box Score Farmville, V.A. - Jenson Edwards recorded her 11
th career double-double on Saturday to lead to Panthers to a 73-56 victory over the Longwood Lancers.
It is Edwards' second double-double this season. The redshirt senior finished the game with 15 points and a season-high 12 rebounds.
Edwards put her stamp on the game in the third quarter. Leading the Panthers 15-0 run, scoring nine points over that span.
After Longwood opened the contest with a 4-3 lead. High Point put together an 8-2 run before the first media timeout.
Claire Wyatt and Edwards each had four points on the run. Out of the media break, it was the Lancer who came out with the momentum. Brooke Anya made back-to-back shots in the paint. Adriana Shipp-Davis tied the game at 12 with a jump shot. After a
Shakira Baskerville layup gave the Panthers a 14-12 lead, Longwood closed the quarter with a Geassy Germano layup, followed by a Janay Turner three pointer. The Lancers end the quarter with a 17-14 lead.
Longwood continued its run in the second quarter, scoring the first six points of the frame. Turner made two layups and Anya put one in from close to make it 24-17. But
Nakyah Terrell started to take over. The sophomore went on an individual 8-1 run to cut Longwood's lead to 24-22. Out of the media timeout, Turner made one of two three throws, then swiped a pass away from
Jordan Edwards to set up Bailey Williams for a layup. After Terrell and Anne-Hamilton Leroy traded layups,
Jenson Edwards made a jumper off a steal to make it a three-point game. Back-to-back travels halted the scoring for over two minutes. After the drought, Wyatt made a layup and
Skyler Curran hit a three to give the Panthers a 31-39 lead. Turner would answer with two free throws to make the score 31-31 at halftime.
Terrell lead all scorers with a season-high 17 points on 5-9 shooting.
Turner led all scorers at halftime with 12 points, five of them coming from the charity stripe. Both teams shot 42.9% in the first half.
Longwood took the lead on an Anya hook shot to start the third. But after that, it was all
Jenson Edwards. She started the 15-0 run with seven consecutive points to give High Point a 38-33 lead. Then she blocked a shot and set up Baskerville in transition for a layup. Edwards and Baskerville would scored again, and after two three throws from Terrell, it was a 46-33 Panther advantage. High Point held Longwood to just eight points in the third quarter, ending the quarter with a 53-39.
High Point stayed strong in the fourth.
Skyler Curran had seven of her 15 points in the fourth. The Panthers took their largest lead of the game in the final minute. Two Wyatt three throws made it 71-51 as she became the fourth Panther to score in double figures.
Courtney Meadows added two free throws to end the scoring at 73-56. The Panthers shot 51.7% from the field in the second half.
High Point has now won six consecutive road games and have swept the season series with Longwood.
