High Point Falls in Tough Battle at Queens

Charlotte, N.C. – The High Point Panthers traveled just south of High Point for a non-conference match up with Queens University of Charlotte. After a tough and gritty battle with the Royals, the Panthers experienced another nail-biting loss in the last 30 seconds, 74-72.

Site: Curry Arena
Score: High Point 72, Queens 74
Records: High Point (1-2), Queens (1-2)

Throughout the full 40 minutes of action, both team's put up a strong fight, playing hard and physical against each other. The game stayed within a basket or two as both teams focused on making every possession count, knowing it could come down to the final seconds of the game.

Like the Panthers last game on the road, the High Point had a one-point lead with one minute and 22 seconds left to play. Duke Miles cashed in a three-pointer from the top of the key to put the Panthers ahead 72-71.

After a solid possession of defense by High Point, the Royals were bailed out with a foul with three seconds left in the game. Entering the bonus, Queens' AJ McKee knocked in both free throws to put Queens up by one point, 73-72.

HPU was unable to secure a last second shot with 2.2 seconds left and came up short.

Offensively, Miles led the team with 21 points, knocking down nine of 18 field goals with his drives to the basket. Kimani Hamilton finished with a double-double collecting 15 points and 10 rebounds. On the defensive end, Cade Potter held his own in the paint and battled to get rebounds. He led the team with 12 boards and added seven points.

The Panthers took their largest lead of the night in the second half, going up by eight at the 15-minute mark after being up by three to end the first half with a Bryson Childress three. High Point was only able to gain another large lead of six with eight minutes left as the Royals put the pressure on in the final minutes of play.
