The High Point University volleyball team hosts a triple header at home this weekend. The Panthers play Winthrop, Charleston Southern, and Pitt. So far, the Panthers are 9-6 and are on a two-game winning streak. Admission is free for all regular season volleyball games in the Millis Center.Â

Last Week with the Panthers
It was a big weekend for the Panthers as they swept Presbyterian for their first Big South Conference.
Sydney Palazzolo and
Dylan Maberry combined had 23 kills. The Panthers held onto held onto many big leads throughout the match to push them to win.

Panthers scored their second win of the Conference season against USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon.
Dylan Maberry led HPU with 13 assists while
Ally Van Eekeren dished out 28 assists.
Gabrielle Idlebird held strong on the defense with 8 blocks.

About the Eagles Â
Winthrop is currently 6-7 in their 2022 season with big wins against Harvard, Radford, and UNC Ashville. The Eagles are on a 3-match winning streak heading into the weekend. Winthrop has won the Big South Conference 13 times and appeared in NCAA Tournaments 6 times.
Alayna Jansky leads the Eagles with .174 hitting percentage and 158 kills in total. Avery Jolley, outside hitter, won freshman of the week and has the second most combined kills on the team.

The Panthers, ranked #10 in the ACC Conference, have a 12-2 record with a winning streak high of 5 matches. The Panthers swept #5 Ohio State and held strong to grab a win against #7 BYU. Pitt also had some incredible wins over Hawaii, Texas A&M, Tennessee, NC State, and UVA. Courtney Buzzerio leads with 167 kills meanwhile Rachel Fairbanks brings 343 assists to the table. Graduate Senior Serena Gray was named ACC Player of the week following two elite performances against North Carolina and NC State.

Ziemba Named Libero of the Week
Jillian Ziemba picked up her first weekly Big South Conference award on Monday (September 26th) as she was named the Libero of the Week. Ziemba finished last weekend with 34 total digs and 21-for-22 on serve receptions to help the Panthers to two conference wins.Â

Idlebird Sets New Program-Best against Fairfield
Graduate middle blocker
Gabrielle Idlebird set a new program record for single-match hitting percentage (minimum 10 attempts) on Saturday against Fairfield. Idlebird was a perfect 8-for-8 on attack attempts and finished the match 11-for-13 (.846).

Meek Posts 200th Career Win
Head coach
Ryan Meek notched his 200
th career win on Saturday as the Panthers swept the Stags. Meek has posted 90 of his wins in five years at the helm for HPU.

Maberry, Wessling Claim Big South Weekly Awards
Dylan Maberry and
Jenny Wessling earned weekly awards from the conference after their performances at the Fairfield Invitational. Maberry was named the Player of the Week after posting 38 kills and hitting over .400 through the three matches while Wessling earned the Libero of the Week nod for the second time in three weeks, tallying a match-high 28 digs against Sacred Heart.

Palazzolo, Wessling Take First Weekly Conference Awards
Sophomores
Sydney Palazzolo and
Jenny Wessling earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Big South Conference on Monday. Palazzolo finished the week with 55 kills (5.0 kps), 37 digs, three blocks, and two service aces while Wessling posted 53 digs and three service aces.

Four Panthers Recognized on Preseason Team
With the Big South's preseason coaches' poll also came preseason all-conference honors.
Dylan Maberry,
Maria Miggins,
Gabrielle Idlebird, and
Sydney Palazzolo were recognized on the preseason team while Maberry was named the conference's Preseason Player of the Year and Miggins earned the Preseason Setter of the Year nod.

HPU Selected as Unanimous Preseason Favorite
High Point received nine first-place votes to sweep the Big South's Preseason Coaches' poll. The Panthers return five all-conference members from 2021 in
Dylan Maberry (Player of the Year),
Maria Miggins (Setter of the Year),
Jenny Wessling (Defensive Player of the Year),
Sydney Palazzolo (Freshman of the Year), and
Gabrielle Idlebird.

The 2022 HPU roster features nine new members with four transfers and five freshmen.
Ally Van Eekeren (Creighton),
Kathryn Wesolich (UCF),
Jillian Ziemba (Butler), and
Elaina Bohnet (Iowa Western CC) all transferred in beginning last January, while
BayLea Sparks,
Anna Wilson,
Ella Grasson,
Hannah Hawkins, and
Amelia Kowalska round out the 2022 freshman class.
