The High Point University baseball team dropped a 3-2 pitcher's duel that came down to the Panthers' final out.

Carter Sheppard was solid on the mound for HPU through 7.0 innings pitched, recording a career-high eight strikeouts and posting six scoreless innings.

The Lancers forced High Point to scatter three hits through eight innings, but down to their last three outs, the Panthers mounted a rally to get back into the game.
Blake Sutton led off with a single to right field and
Cole Singsank walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance with
Javon Fields at the plate. On a 2-2 count, Fields tripled to deep center field, scoring Sutton and Singsank and cutting the lead to one run still with no outs.

Justin Ebert and
Josh Deslauriers were retired on plays to the right side, but with the infield pulled in Fields was held at third base. Down to their final out,
Miggy Echazarreta and
Charlie Klingler both drew walks to load the bases.

But
Adam Stuart grounded out to the third base to give the Lancers their sixth Big South win.
