Panthers Fall in Late Rally, 3-2

The High Point University baseball team dropped a 3-2 pitcher's duel that came down to the Panthers' final out.

Site: Williard Stadium (High Point, N.C.)
Score: High Point 3, Longwood 2
Records: High Point (10-20, 5-5), Longwood (14-17, 6-1)

Carter Sheppard was solid on the mound for HPU through 7.0 innings pitched, recording a career-high eight strikeouts and posting six scoreless innings.

The Lancers forced High Point to scatter three hits through eight innings, but down to their last three outs, the Panthers mounted a rally to get back into the game. Blake Sutton led off with a single to right field and Cole Singsank walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance with Javon Fields at the plate. On a 2-2 count, Fields tripled to deep center field, scoring Sutton and Singsank and cutting the lead to one run still with no outs.

Pinch hitters Justin Ebert and Josh Deslauriers were retired on plays to the right side, but with the infield pulled in Fields was held at third base. Down to their final out, Miggy Echazarreta and Charlie Klingler both drew walks to load the bases.

But Adam Stuart grounded out to the third base to give the Lancers their sixth Big South win.

Up Next: High Point continues their series with Longwood tomorrow, Saturday, April 9th. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
