Head coach
Joey Hammond: "Really good to be able to stack another good day together with a couple shutouts in a row . I can't say enough about the job coach (Miles) Miller, coach (Gavin) Weyman, and coach (Chris) Maness, and our pitching staff have done. You're obviously supposed to win when you throw shutouts, so I'm really proud of those guys to get a big victory against a really good team. Again, I keep reiterating that that's a really good club. They're going to win a lot of games, and they already have, and that says a lot about our team and us being able to control the things that we can control. And they made a couple plays in some big situations as well, so really proud of them to be able to come out and stack another day. Now it's a matter of turning the page again and being able to finish. It's a word we talk about a lot and to come with the same energy with the expectation that they're going to show up tomorrow with a lot of energy with a lot to play for. We're going to have to match that intensity and go out and execute like we've done these last two days."
Panther Particulars
The HPU bats were hot from the start of the game.
Javon Fields led off with a single to right field and advanced to third on
Blake Sutton's double to center. With runners in scoring position,
Peyton Carr executed with an RBI-ground out to the shortstop.
Cole Singsank scored Sutton on his ground out to second base as well.Â
HPU kept it rolling in the bottom of the second as
CJ Neese singled up the middle and set up the two-run homer from Ebert.Â
The Panthers were quiet until the sixth inning, Sutton walked, Carr singled, and Singsank was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Stuart reached on a fielder's choice as a ground ball to the first baseman was thrown away trying to throw Sutton out at home. Carr also scored on the error to give HPU the 6-0 advantage.Â
Merritt finished out the sixth inning, recording five strikeouts and allowing just two hits and three walks on the day. Duffy finished the day with three innings pitched, four strikeouts, while scattering three hits.
Up Next: HPU looks for the series sweep tomorrow (Sunday, March 6th) at 1 p.m.
