The High Point University baseball team picked up their third-straight win with a 9-8 victory over UNC Greensboro.
Jackson Melton went 2-for-3 at the plate while
Miggy Echazarreta led the team with three runs scored.
Reid Viar picked up his first win of the season and
Everett Vaughan earned the save on the mound.

The Spartans were the first on the board, plating a run in the bottom of the first inning. But HPU responded with three runs in the top of the second.
Brady Pearre led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second when
Miggy Echazarreta drew a walk.
Jackson Melton singled to right field, moving both runners while Pearre scored on the throw.

As the Spartan pitcher attempted to pick off Echazarreta at second base, he stole third base and scored after an errant throw escaped the third baseman. Melton also advanced to third base on the throw and the Panthers took the 3-1 lead.

UNCG added two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at three runs apiece. Both teams traded zeros through the fourth and fifth innings.

High Point regained the lead with another three-run inning in the sixth as Echazarreta reached base on a bunt single and Melton was hit by a pitch.
Charlie Klingler singled to third base and scored Echazarreta while Melton moved to third.

Adam Stuart reached on a fielder's choice while Melton was out at home before
Peyton Carr drew a walk to load the bases.
Cole Singsank came up clutch with a ground-rule double that scored Klingler and Stuart.

A two-run home run from UNCG in the bottom of the sixth pulled the Spartans back within one, but HPU plated another run in the seventh. Echazarreta walked and advanced to third on Melton's single, then scored on a passed ball to hold the 7-5 lead.

HPU tallied two more runs in the eighth and ninth innings, as Singsank scored Stuart with a sacrifice hit before
David Coleman's sacrifice fly out scored
Josh Deslauriers.

The Spartans would make their final run in the bottom of the ninth by scoring three runs to pull within 9-8, but
Everett Vaughan forced a fly out to Pearre in right field to end the game.
