HPU Falls to #18 JMU

Site: Sentara Park (Harrisonburg, V.A.)

Score: High Point 6, JMU 11

Records: High Point (0-3), JMU (2-2)

HIGH POINT, N.C.— The High Point University women's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 11-6 contest to the #18 JMU on Saturday (Feb. 26) afternoon. Abby Hormes led the way for the Panthers with four goals on the day.

Lyndsey Boswell: "We showed some brilliant moments in the game today against JMU, but missed a few really important details. We outworked a very strong JMU team on the draw circle, and in ground balls, giving ourselves several opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net in very key moments. Our defense was solid, and Taylor (Suplee) made some very good saves at pivotal moments but again, if we can't score goals, it makes it difficult to get the results we are looking for. I believe it's a matter of time before things come together for this group, and I can't wait to watch it happen for them."

Panther Particulars

The Dukes got on the board first but HPU was quick to respond with two Hormes goals, both assisted by Nicole Pugh, to put the Panthers up 2-1.

JMU then went on with a 4-0 scoring run which put the Dukes back on top 5-2 early in the second quarter.

Emma Genovese put a stop to the Duke scoring momentarily as she scored an unassisted goal to cut the JMU lead to two goals.

The Dukes kept the pressure on as they went on a 5-0 scoring run to put them ahead 10-3 in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers closed out the game scoring 3 of the final 4 goals. Kay Rosselli was assisted by Mena Loescher for her fifth goal of the season to bring HPU within six.

JMU was able to find one more goal before Hormes scored two goals in the final three minutes of play, both unassisted.

Up Next: The Panthers will continue their road trip as they head to the U.S Lacrosse Headquarters in Maryland to face Michigan on Wednesday (Mar. 2). The first faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
