The High Point University women's basketball team picked up the regular season sweep of Winthrop on Monday night in Rock Hill. Panther Particulars
Callie Scheier made HPU's first defensive stop, picking up the steal and finding Jordan Edwards breaking away for an early two points. Scheier then had an open look from deep on the next possession and buried the three-pointer.

After a Jordan Edwards layup, Winthrop would respond with four of the next six points but still trailed 9-4 early in the first quarter. HPU closed out the quarter with two layups from Nakyah Terrell and Cydney Johnson and another Terrell jumper with two seconds remaining.

After trading baskets for the first five minutes of the second frame, Winthrop closed the quarter on an 11-0 run.

The Panthers responded in the third quarter as Jordan Edwards made a driving layup and converted the and-1 opportunity at the free throw line.

Johnson and Jordan Edwards each made layups before Jenson Edwards hit back-to-back triples to push the Panther lead to 37-28.

HPU put the pressure on in the final frame, opening with a 13-2 run that included two Scheier three-pointers.

Good defense throughout the period held the Eagles to just four field goals through the quarter.

Up Next: HPU returns to the Qubein Center on Wednesday when they host UNC Asheville for senior night. Prior to the 7:00 p.m. tip, the Panthers will honor graduate student Jaden Wrightsell.
