Panthers Fall Short Against Jacksonville in Sunday Matinee

W: Parker Murphy (1-0), L: Sam Garcia (0-1)

Jacksonville, FL., -- The High Point University baseball team dropped the series finale against Jacksonville 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. Javon Fields led the way for HPU with 2 hits on the day. Adam Stuart crossed home plate twice for the Panthers.

Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Obviously not the way we wanted to finish it. I thought DK (David Keith) did a really good job, giving us every opportunity to win the game. We had a tough first inning where they just had some balls drop in, and he settled in and pitched awesome. I thought Sam (Garcia) came in and threw the ball really well. You just have to make a big pitch in a big situation. You know, tip your hat to their guy, getting a two-out RBI. It's the name of the game, they get the big two-out RBI and we don't. Unfortunately, that's been a theme all weekend long, when you're tied or winning in the seventh inning, you're supposed to win those games. We've got a big hill to get overtop in terms of just believing, I know there's some scars with this group and I really appreciate their fight and their effort. And I certainly am never going to take that for granted because that's the reason why we're in all these games and we're competitive and our guys are doing a great job with that fight, we've just got to be able to finish. We're not there yet, but we're going to show back up at the park and work on it tomorrow and give us a chance to play some more this week."

Panther Particulars

The Dolphins struck first as they put up two runs in the first inning.

Javon Fields picked up the first hit of the day for the Panthers with a double in the outfield gap.

HPU cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth inning off of a Blake Sutton RBI double which scored Adam Stuart.

The Panthers kept the offensive pressure on Jacksonville with a two-run seventh inning. Cole Singsank powered the ball past the shortstop and into the outfield which allowed for Adam Stuart to score.

Peyton Carr kept the rally going with a single past the second baseman which scored Blake Sutton from second base to give HPU a 3-2 lead.

The Dolphins were able to respond with a three-run bottom half of the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead.

Singsank and Sutton were able to string together hits in the ninth inning, however the Dolphins were able to put a stop to the HPU rally.
