G.G. Smith – "We're ecstatic about the win, it was a great nonconference win. It's a busy Saturday in sports so we were fortunate to be at home and get to watch your school is always a good feeling. We just thought the guys really came out ready to play Wofford. I'd like to credit Wofford; they have a great program and great tradition coming out of the southern conference. Jay had his team ready to go and with Jay being a Georgia guy and me being a Georgia guy, I got a lot of respect for him and his program. We're just very fortunate for the win, we had some pretty good individual efforts,
Zack Austin and
Jaden House so hope we can keep it rolling for Lees-McRae."
Zack Austin opened the game with a three-point basket, marking the first points on the board for the Panthers.
Abdoulaye Thiam followed with a pull up jumper inside the paint to make it 5-3, HPU.
House dished one over to
Bryson Childress on the wing for his first three of the night to put the Panthers up by five.
Down the stretch, House rocked the arena with a dunk after going coast to coast on a fast break, making the score 21-16.
High Point found the momentum eight minutes to go in the first half, knocking down three after three and dunk after dunk to extend the lead to 17 before the horn.
After getting in some foul trouble early, the Panthers really pushed the pace in the second half, using their speed to their advantage.
Within a span of two minutes the Terriers cut the Panthers 19-point lead to eight with three back-to-back points threes.
House did what House does and did not let the team get rattled, knocking down a three from the top of the key, before rocking the house with another dunk.
An and-one play for House off a spin-move inside the paint led to his 10
th free-throw of the night, keeping him at 100%.
Bryant Randleman brought down a rebound on the defensive end and pushed the ball up the court to find
Jake Koverman sliding to the corner for a three. The good bucket put HPU back up by 19 with nine minutes to go in the half.
Just before reaching his 30
th point of the night, House put down an impressive one-handed dunk after breaking through the lane and receiving a pass from
Ahmard Harvey.
With two minutes to go in the game, Wofford fought back to close the gap to 13 but the Panthers kept their composer, taking care of the ball to finish the game with an eleven-point victory.
