HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Panther volleyball team travels to Radford for a Friday night Big South conference game before traveling back down to play at Campbell. High Point goes into the weekend with an 11-4 overall record and a 4-0 record in conference.

Last Time Out
HPU fell to No. 10 Pitt on Sunday afternoon, 1-3. In the four-set match, Sydney Palazzolo collected 12 kills and 15 digs while Jillian Ziemba led the team with 19 digs.

About the Highlanders
Radford enters the Friday night contest with an overall record of 6-10 to go along with a Big South record of 2-2. The Highlanders opened conference play with a 3-1 win over UNC Asheville before taking two hits to Winthrop and Charleston Southern. Crystal Childs leads Radford with 140 kills while Fiona Baker has tallied 328 assists. Shelby Hernandez leads the defense with 217 digs, averaging 4.14 per game, while Tori Britton is the only Highlander to have over 30 blocks this season.

About the Camels
After a rocky start to the season, the Camels opened their Big South play with a 4-0 streak, taking wins over Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, Presbyterian and Winthrop. Two out of the four victories were clean sweeps for the Camels. Campbell's offense is led by Chloe Cook with 158 kills and Emily Mitter with 329 assists. The Camel defense is led by Claranne Fechter with 257 digs and Melody Paige, who currently leads the Big South with 90 blocks. 
 


Palazzolo Earns Second Player of the Week Honor
Sydney Palazzolo
posted double-doubles in each of High Point's three matches over the weekend. She led HPU with 16 kills against and 15 digs against Winthrop, hitting .277 with one block before tallying 19 kills, 11 digs, and one block against Charleston Southern. She finished the weekend with 12 kills, 15 digs, and two blocks as HPU took a set from No. 10 Pitt on Sunday.

Ziemba Named Libero of the Week
Jillian Ziemba
picked up her first weekly Big South Conference award on Monday (September 26th) as she was named the Libero of the Week. Ziemba finished last weekend with 34 total digs and 21-for-22 on serve receptions to help the Panthers to two conference wins. 

Idlebird Sets New Program-Best against Fairfield
Graduate middle blocker Gabrielle Idlebird set a new program record for single-match hitting percentage (minimum 10 attempts) on Saturday against Fairfield. Idlebird was a perfect 8-for-8 on attack attempts and finished the match 11-for-13 (.846).

Meek Posts 200th Career Win
Head coach Ryan Meek notched his 200th career win on Saturday as the Panthers swept the Stags. Meek has posted 90 of his wins in five years at the helm for HPU.

Maberry, Wessling Claim Big South Weekly Awards
Dylan Maberry and Jenny Wessling earned weekly awards from the conference after their performances at the Fairfield Invitational. Maberry was named the Player of the Week after posting 38 kills and hitting over .400 through the three matches while Wessling earned the Libero of the Week nod for the second time in three weeks, tallying a match-high 28 digs against Sacred Heart.

Palazzolo, Wessling Take First Weekly Conference Awards
Sophomores Sydney Palazzolo and Jenny Wessling earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Big South Conference on Monday. Palazzolo finished the week with 55 kills (5.0 kps), 37 digs, three blocks, and two service aces while Wessling posted 53 digs and three service aces.

Four Panthers Recognized on Preseason Team
With the Big South's preseason coaches' poll also came preseason all-conference honors. Dylan Maberry, Maria Miggins, Gabrielle Idlebird, and Sydney Palazzolo were recognized on the preseason team while Maberry was named the conference's Preseason Player of the Year and Miggins earned the Preseason Setter of the Year nod.

HPU Selected as Unanimous Preseason Favorite
High Point received nine first-place votes to sweep the Big South's Preseason Coaches' poll. The Panthers return five all-conference members from 2021 in Dylan Maberry (Player of the Year), Maria Miggins (Setter of the Year), Jenny Wessling (Defensive Player of the Year), Sydney Palazzolo (Freshman of the Year), and Gabrielle Idlebird.
