Zach Haines: "We played well and showed that we are capable of performing at a high level. Unfortunately a couple of big moments went against us on one end and we couldn't capitalize on the other end. But we feel the performance is still enough to keep the momentum going that we have been building the last few weeks, and are now prepared for the second half of the season."
High Point had an early shot as
Finn McRobb sent a header high off a corner kick from
Davis Biggerstaff. The Wolfpack got its first chance at the 8:52 mark with a high shot on goal, but Trent was there to make the save with a deflection.Â
After picking off a pass, Biggerstaff dribbled down the field and found a cutting
Sebastian Chalbaud who fired a shot from just outside the penalty area, but was saved by the Wolfpack keeper.Â
The Panthers fouled in the penalty area late in the first half, resulting in an NC State penalty kick. While Trent nearly made the save, the Wolfpack did convert on the opportunity and took the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.Â
Chalbaud and
Larson Rula each took shots to open the second half, but it was the Wolfpack who scored in the 51st minute on a set play that resulted from an HPU foul.
Trent made his fourth and final save in the 81st minute, swallowing up a one-on-one opportunity from an NC State forward.
Up Next: High Point continues its road schedule on Saturday when the Panthers travel to Presbyterian. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Clinton.Â
