Sixth Straight Win for the Panthers

Rock Hill, S.C. – High Point University women's volleyball takes their sixth straight win in Big South conference play on Saturday afternoon. The 3-1 win was led by Sydney Palazzolo who tagged another double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs. Ally Van Eekeren and Dylan Maberry also hit double digits, and added 10 kills each.

Site: Winthrop Coliseum
Score: High Point 3 (21, 25, 25, 25), Winthrop 1 (25, 16, 12, 20)
Records: High Point (18-8, 11-1), Winthrop (13-10, 9-3)

In a close first set to start the match, the teams witnessed four lead changes and six tie ups before the 15-point mark. The Panthers trailed by one, 11-12 following a right side kill from the lefty, Maria Miggins.

The Eagles made a 4-0 run after Van Eekeren collected her second kill of the day. In an attempt to close the gap, Palazzolo's hit kept HPU within two at 20-22. A couple Panther mistakes bumped Winthrop's lead to 24-20 as the Eagles were able to secure the match point after a Maberry kill to take the first set.

High Point regrouped in set two, hammering down three straight hits to take an 8-4 lead before taking their largest lead of the set at 10-4. Sopheea Mink snuck in a deep shot from the right side to keep the Panthers up, 16-11.

The Eagles had no answer for High Point after reaching the 16-point mark as the Panthers set out on a kill haul. A combination of four kills, three of which from Palazzolo, one ace and two attack errors from Winthrop advanced HPU to the 25-16 set win.

Set three was no different for the Panthers as the team kept the momentum rolling. Van Eekeren marked her seventh kill of the night off a push to the far back corner. Her smart ball placement was able to land multiple points for High Point throughout the game.

The double block from Palazzolo and Mink tabbed the Panthers second block of the set to make it 17 to eleven. With the Eagles barely reaching double figures in points, HPU caught fire and put down six kills and two service aces to defeat Winthrop 25-12 in set three.

High Point chipped away to a 22-13 lead in set four. Winthrop did not give up and fought back to make it 22-18. Palazzolo came in clutch, closing out the set with two kills to win 25-20 and take home the 3-1 victory.
