High Point, Upstate Draw, 1-1, in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The High Point University men's soccer team drew at USC Upstate on Saturday night. Brendan Krueger scored his first goal of his career in the 46th minute while the Panthers held Upstate to one shot on goal all night.

Site: County University Soccer Stadium
Score: High Point 1, USC Upstate 1
Records: High Point (7-4-5, 4-0-3), USC Upstate (5-5-5, 3-1-3)

Head coach Zach Haines: "I'm proud of the way we played tonight in an important game on the road. We created enough big chances to win the game many times over and gave up just one shot on target the whole game and unfortunately it was a goal against. We just need to keep bringing this level of performance and good things will happen. The last couple games have been tough as we expected and felt we earned more, but that is life in this game. We just need to keep pushing and trust that the results will match the quality of play in the coming weeks."

In a quiet first half, Beau Yantz recorded one of HPU's two shots on goal in the 43rd minute to close out first half action.

Brendan Krueger put HPU on the board early in the second half. Davis Biggerstaff took the set piece and found Karson Kendall in the box. The ball moved to the outside to Krueger who sent the ball into the back of the net in the upper left corner. The goal marks his first as a Panther.

Soon after the goal, HPU had another chance in the 50th minute as Noah Holmes nearly forced a header but the Spartan goalkeeper blocked the ball out of bounds for the save.

Upstate tied the match at 1-1 in the 59th minute after the Panthers turned the ball over in the midfield where the Spartans were able to start a counter attack. Upstate then scored from a deflection off a Panther defender on their first and only shot on target of the game.

In the final 20 minutes, HPU outshout Upstate 8-1 with four shots on goal from Kaya Ignacio, Cooper Lindfelt, Sebastian Chalbaud, and Jefferson Amaya. High Point also created opportunities from corner kicks, holding a 5-1 advantage over the Spartans, but could not find the goal to leave with a win. High Point finishes the regular season continuing its Big South road game unbeaten streak, having picked up a win or draw in each road game since September 2016.

Up Next: High Point hosts Longwood on Wednesday night in Vert Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in High Point.
