Panthers Face Lady Pirates in Qubein Center

The High Point University women's basketball team hosts Hampton in the Qubein Center on Saturday afternoon, seeking their third Big South win and second this week. HPU is currently sixth in Big South women's basketball standings.

Across the Bench
The Lady Pirates enter Saturday's contest with a 6-6 record and 2-0 in conference contests after posting wins over North Carolina A&T and Presbyterian.
 
Nylah Young leads the Lady Pirates in scoring with 15.4 points per game while shooting 42 percent from the field. She also leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game and has 23 steals.
 
Head coach David Six is in his 14th season with Hampton. Through 2019-20, Six owned 232 wins, the most by any coach in the program.
 
Last Time vs. Hampton
The Panthers took the one-point win over Hampton last February in High Point. Courtney Meadows scored 18 points while Jenson Edwards posted 14 points. Jordan Edwards dished out four assists in the victory as well.
 
Panthers vs. Lady Pirates
High Point is 6-0 all-time against Hampton since their first meeting in February 2019. In two of the last three meetings, the Panthers have posted wins of 15 points or more.
 
Winning Numbers
All five of HPU's wins have come from games when the Panthers score 60 or more points. HPU has only lost twice when they manage at least 60 points.

Fourth Quarter Fun
HPU outscored UNC Asheville 23-15 in the final period on Tuesday to pick up their second Big South win. Jaden Wrightsell netted 13 of her 21 points in the quarter, including a turnaround jumper that tied the game in the final minute and two free throws that gave HPU the lead.
 
The Panthers shot nearly 82 percent from the floor in the period and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line to secure the victory.
 
Edwards Secures 40th Double-Digit Performance
In Tuesday's win at Asheville, Jenson Edwards scored 11 points, making it her 40th career double-digit scoring game in three seasons with the Panthers.
 
Edwards has also posted four career 20+ point scoring games and six career double-double performances.
 
H3U Returns
After starting off the season shooting 27.7 percent from behind the three-point line, HPU hit 17 triples against USC Upstate. Team three-point percentage jumped nearly two full points to 29.5 percent after that performance. Six players recorded three-pointers as the Panthers finished the night shooting 43 percent from the arc.

Callie Scheier recorded a Division I career-best performance at USC Upstate, scoring 23 points with five three-pointers and going 8-for-8 behind the charity stripe.
 
Scheier is fifth in the Big South in 3-point field goals made per game as she's made 27 triples (1.9/game).
 
Doubled Up on Double-Doubles
Jenson Edwards and Jaden Wrightsell each posted double-doubles against King. Edwards led HPU in scoring with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Wrightsell posted 12 rebounds and 15 points. It was the first time two Panthers posted double-doubles in the same game since Feb. 20, 2016.
 
Edwards posted her second double-double of the season (sixth in career) against Gardner-Webb with a balanced 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Dishing It Out
Jordan Edwards has served a team-high 40 assists this season. She ranks tied for 7th in the Big South for assists per game (2.9 apg). Last season, Edwards tallied 142 assists on the season, good for fifth in HPU's single-season records.
 
Hitting the Boards
Jenson Edwards leads HPU in defensive rebounds so far this season. Edwards has pulled down 75 defensive rebounds (5.4 rpg) this season. She pulled down 10 rebounds against King and Gardner-Webb to finish with double-doubles in each game. Edwards ranks fourth in the Big South in defensive rebounds per game.
 
Two-Time Freshman of the Week
Nakyah Terrell was named the Big South Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on November 29th after posting a double-double against Wake Forest. Terrell led all players is scoring (21 points) and rebounding (11 rebounds) in the contest.
 
Terrell Posts First Double-Double
Freshman Nakyah Terrell recorded her first career double-double against Wake Forest on Nov. 24th. She led the team with 21 points and 11 rebounds while also nabbing one steal and one assist.
 
Record Book Watch
Redshirt junior Jenson Edwards finished in the top-five all-time for season field goal percentage in 2020-21. Edwards was 141-279 (.505) from the floor. Edwards was also ninth for free throws made and percentage in a season. She was third in percentage (.882) and ninth in free throws made (90). Jenson's .418 three-point percentage line last season was fourth all-time for HPU as well.
 
Jordan Edwards finished tied for fifth for assists in a season (142) and third in assists per game (5.1). Edwards has dished out 37 assists and nabbed 17 steals through the first 13 games of the season.
 
Banbury is Back
Head coach Chelsea Banbury is entering her third season at the helm. She was named the fifth Division I head coach of High Point University's women's basketball team in June 2019. Banbury has a 38-20 record at High Point through her first two seasons.
 
Panthers Enter as Preseason No. 1
High Point was selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Big South while Skyler Curran and Jenson Edwards both earned Big South Preseason honors. Curran was named Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the team in scoring last season (17.7 points/game) while Edwards earned Big South Preseason Second Team recognition. Edwards also garnered the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year Award after she posted the fifth-highest scoring average in the Big South with a total of 14.6 points per game.
