The High Point University men's basketball team (7-10, 1-2) will continue their road trip on Saturday (Jan. 22) as they take on Hampton in a Saturday evening Big South clash. Tipoff is set for 4:00 pm.
Across the Bench
Hampton is 4-10 on the season this year and is looking for its first Big South win going 0-3 so far in conference play. Hampton is coming off a tough three-point loss to Radford.
The Pirates had a chance to defeat the Highlanders in the last few seconds of the game, however the three-point attempt from Najee Garvin did not fall for the Pirates.
Last Time Out
High Point University men's basketball's comeback effort against Charleston Southern fell just short in the final moments as the Buccaneers won 70-66. John-Michael Wright had his best scoring night ever in a High Point uniform as he went 13-22 and dropped 34 points. It was the first time Wright had scored 30 points in his HPU career since January 30th of his freshman year back in 2020 against Campbell. It was the third time JMW ever scored at least 30 points for HPU. Zack Austin and Jaden House also scored double digits as Austin had 14 and House finished with 11 points.
Chairman of the Boards
Zack Austin leads the Big South in rebounding; he averages 8.1 per game which is also the 80th most rebounds per game in the nation. Austin has recorded 21 rebounds in his previous two games.
The Wright Way
Wright is averaging 20.5 points per game which leads the Big South and gives him the 14th highest points per game average in the nation. Wright is currently 7th all-time on the Division-I HPU scoring list with 1256. He is 3 points away from moving into 6th and surpassing Adam Weary.
Tubby and the Three
The Panthers are shooting at 35.8 percent behind the arc, which is the 84th highest three-point percentage in the nation. This is the second time since his 1998 National Championship winning team that Tubby Smith has coached a team in the top 100 of three-point percentage. High Point (37.8, 32nd, 2021-22) Minnesota (39.9, 9th, 2009-10).

Austin is second in the Big South and 27th in the country in blocks per game with an average of 2.59.
