BLACKSBURG, Va.—The High Point University track team gets ready for its first track meet in 2022 after already being in action in December to get the indoor season started.

Panthers to Watch For in Blacksburg

Freddie Allen III will be making his 2021-22 debut after going to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships during the outdoor season last May. He will be in the long jump on Saturday as well as the 60m dash on Friday.

The Women's seeded pole vault

Nathalie Elliott, Mackenzie Horn, Sydney Horn will all be in action in the seeded pole vault on Saturday. Sydney will see Tech's Rachel Baxter who, like her, qualified for the NCAA National Championships. Rector Field House features elevated runways and is always a favorite stop for the Nation's top vaulters.

Deron Dudley will be in action on Saturday in the 200m and then in the 60m dash the night before. Both events will contain talented athletes from Power 5 schools.

Last Time Out

The Panther men opened the 21-22 season at the Liberty Kick-Off in the first week of December. Paul Gore was the top individual for HPU as he won the 60m dash and matched the school record with a time of 6.80.

The women were also at the Liberty Kick-Off and Sydney Horn was the top collegiate finisher in the pole vault with a mark of 4.21m. The team of Taylor ArthurEbba AhmanNyile Facey, and Leah Bolden won the 4x400. The Panthers had three individual winners with Bolden winning the 60m dash, Facey winning the 60m hurdles, and Alicia Dawson taking first place in the triple jump.


 

Two Athletes of the Week Already for 21-22

HPU capped off its first week of action for the 2021-22 season with two Panther athletes earning Big South Weekly Honors (Dec 8). Sydney Horn was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Horn opened her sophomore season with a mark of 4.21m in her first outing of the year at the Liberty Kick-Off. The 2021 Indoor All-American currently has the sixth-highest mark in the nation in pole vault so far in the young 2021-22 season with her mark of 4.21m. Gabriel Ludwick was named the Big South Freshman of the Week. In his first collegiate race, Ludwick finished the 1000m in 2:30.01 placing fourth. Ludwick was less than a second off first place and was four seconds off breaking the school record.
