The High Point University women's soccer team (1-6-2) hosts Winthrop (4-2-2) on Wednesday night for a conference matchup at 7:00 PM. HPU is 1-1 in Big South play coming off of a 4-0 home win against Charleston Southern in its last time out.

History with Winthrop

HPU is 13-6-4, HPU has won the last two meetings over Winthrop. In the spring of 2021, Sam Gerhart and the Panthers defeated Winthrop 3-0 as Gerhart provided all three Panther goals.

A Look at Winthrop

Winthrop is 4-2-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the Big South. The Eagles' wins have come against Alabama State, Wofford, Gardner-Webb, and USC Upstate. Winthrop drew with both Appalachian State and Longwood. Winthrop is led in scoring by freshman Anna Kate Highsmith she has three goals on the season and is the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week. 

Last Time Out

HPU defeated Charleston Southern 4-0 Saturday afternoon inside Vert Stadium in HPU's second Big South game of the year. The 4-0 victory over CSU was High Point's first win of the year, Salomé Prat led the way for HPU in scoring with two goals in the win, her first two of the year. HPU Defender Alex Deperno recorded the first multi-assist game of her career as she supplied two in the 4-0 win.

 

Deperno Is Defensive Player of the Week

Deperno recorded the first multi-assist game of her career as she supplied two in the 4-0 win over CSU. The Sophomore defender also led her Panther defense to its second shutout of the season. Deperno sent a ball into the Bucs' box that Skyler Prillaman was able to track down and finish for the second goal of the day against CSU. In the 42nd minute, Prat broke away from the defense to score and put the Panthers up 3. This was also from Deperno, her second assist of the day.
