HPU Travels To Charlottesville For Thursday Night Road Contest Against Virginia

The High Point University men's soccer team (1-1) travels to Charlottesville to face UVA (1-0) in a midweek clash in Klockner Stadium on Thursday night (Sep. 2) at 7:00 PM. Coastal Carolina becomes the 10th ranked opponent HPU has faced since 2018. This is the first time HPU has hosted a ranked opponent while also being ranked. Thursday night's clash is High Point's 37th Power 5 contest and the third time the Panthers have challenged the Hoos. 

Matchup History with Virginia 

Thursday night will mark the third meeting between the two sides with all three contests being conducted inside Klockner. The two previous games were each decided by one goal. The last time HPU faced UVA was on September 7th in 2019 when #12 UVA was victorious 1-0 in a hard-fought game. 

A Look at Virginia

The Cavaliers played an all Big South preseason facing both Longwood and Radford in exhibitions. UVA defeated the Lancers 2-1 then were victorious over the Highlanders 4-1. In their last time out UVA picked up its 800th win in program history with a thrilling 2-1 win over Western Michigan where the deciding goal came in the final three minutes from UVA freshman Ank Nibogora.

Last Time Out

High Point defeated #25 Coastal Carolina 1-0. MD Myers supplied the deciding goal for the first of his junior year campaign. It was HPU's first ranked win since defeating #5 Duke 1-0 in 2018. It was HPU's first ranked win in Vert Stadium since 2016 when The Panthers defeated #25 Radford 1-0.

For the first time in program history, High Point had two Panthers named to the MAC Herman Watchlist in the same year in Sebastian Chalbaud and MD Myers.
