#24 HPU Delivers Program's Third Ranked Win in School History with Victory over #25 Coastal Carolina

Site: High Point N.C. (Vert Stadium)

Score:  #24 High Point 1, #25 Coastal Carolina 0

Records: #24 High Point (1-1), #25 Coastal Carolina (0-1-1)

HIGH POINT, N.C.-- The #24 High Point University men's soccer team defeated #25 Coastal Carolina 1-0. MD Myers supplied the deciding goal for the first of his junior year campaign. It was HPU's first ranked win since defeating #5 Duke 1-0 in 2018. It was HPU's first ranked win in Vert Stadium since 2016 when The Panthers defeated #25 Radford 1-0.

Zach HainesI am so proud of the guys tonight, obviously we were not happy with the result against Davidson on the road we knew we had to challenge the guys to bring more and have a response. We also needed to get back to some of the things that have been part of our identity for the last year and a half and allowed us to be very successful. We didn't quite hit on those things against Davidson, we are missing some key guys everybody knows that but that was not an excuse we needed to make sure we brought a level of fight, level of intensity, and work rate that would allow us to compete in this game. This is a team that is known for it in Coastal if you aren't on it in terms of those controllable factors then they will take advantage of it and I thought the guys were unbelievable tonight in every way when it comes to those parts of the game.

Panther Particulars

The game started quickly for HPU as Myers fired an initial shot that Sebastian Chalbaud picked up off a rebound and had his shot blocked.

Holden Trent had a big night making five saves with four in the first half alone. Trent earned his first shutout of the season.

After about five minutes of nearly uninterrupted Panther pressure, Myers found the goal for HPU. Myers scored in the 33rd minute, he was set up by great passes from Davis Biggerstaff, and Lalas Ayertey

The defensive effort held strong as Trent made another save that McRobb cleared out to protect the Panther lead.

The shot count was close as the Panthers outshot the Chants by one 19-18 while HPU outshot CCU 9-5.

HPU adds its third-ranked win in program history with the 1-0 victory over CCU on Sunday night.

Up Next: HPU plays its 37th Power 5 contest on Thursday night (Sep. 2) in Klockner against UVA.
