The High Point University women's soccer team faces Winthrop on Sunday in its' Big South Conference opener. The Panthers carry a 2-0 victory over UNCG into this Big South opener against the Eagles on the road in the Rock Hill.

Panthers Take Triad Derby
The two goals in the win over UNCG last weekend mark the most goals HPU has scored in a season opener since 2015 where High Point defeated UNCG 2-0.
Super Sam
Reigning Big South Freshman of the year in 2019, Sam Gerhart led the way for HPU with a goal and an assist. The sophomore from Lebanon, Pa. played a role in both scoring moments for the Purple and White, Chloe Le Franc assisted the first goal to Gerhart which came in the 32nd minute. Gerhart assisted Salomé Prat as well. Gerhart was named Big South Offensive Player of the week this week (2/20)
Salomé Shines in Debut
The freshman from France, Salomé Prat made a big splash in her collegiate debut against UNCG. Gerhart assisted Prat who scored the first goal of her college career in the 71st minute of the contest as she helped secure the victory over the Spartans. Mazich sped past two defenders and sent a ball through to Gerhart who crossed it into the box where Prat finished to put HPU up by two. Prat ended the day having played 40 minutes off the bench and one goal scored in her debut.Â
Across the Bench
- Winthrop will be making its 2021 debut against HPU. Winthrop is only playing a Big South slate this season.Â
- The Eagles are led in goals by Megan Loveland who is The Eagels' top returning scorer. Loveland scored two goals a season ago.
- Winthrop is led by Spencer Smith who is in his tenth season as the Head Coach of the Eagles.Â
