The High Point University men's basketball team (7-17, 4-7 Big South) heads back on the road for another Big South Conference clash as it takes on Gardner-Webb (9-14, 5-6 Big South) on Monday (Feb. 10) night in Boiling Springs.

Last Time Out
The Panthers head into Monday's matchup after an 81-70 setback to Radford on Saturday (Feb. 8). Despite trailing by as many as 26 points, HPU battled back to cut it to single digits late in the second half. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak, where the Panthers earned wins over Campbell (62-57) and Hampton (88-85).

Jamal Wright and
Denny Slay II, who each dropped 17 points off the bench on Saturday.

Jamal Wright has averaged 20.3 points per game over his last three contests, including a career-high 34 point performance in the win over Hampton where he shot 10-13 from the floor and 5-7 from beyond the arc.

Gardner-Webb holds a slim 30-29 lead in the series history, breaking the deadlock earlier this season (Jan. 23) with a 79-76 overtime win at in High Point at Millis Center. HPU held a 14-point lead and got a 31-point effort from freshman
John-Michael Wright, however, the Runnin' Bulldogs hit shots down the stretch and in overtime to seal the comeback attempt.

Across the Bench
The Runnin' Bulldogs are coming off of an 83-67 win over USC Upstate at home. Everette Hammond recorded a season-high 16 points while Tommy Bruner chipped in with 14 points. Gardner-Webb currently sits in sixth place in the Big South standings with a 5-6 conference record, while having an overall mark of 9-14.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by Eric Jamison Jr., who i averaging 13.9 points per game with 5.4 rebounds a game. Gardner-Webb is without Big South Preseason All-Conference honoree Jose Perez - who stepped away from the team for personal reasons - as announced by the team on Feb. 7. Perez was leading the team with 15 points per game and 6.6 rebounds a contest.

Gardner-Webb is led by seventh year Head Coach Tim Craft, who's won 111 games heading coming into the 2020 season. Craft, 42, became just the fourth head coach in Big South Conference history to win at least 15 games in each of his first four seasons, joining Ron Bradley (Radford), Gregg Marshall (Winthrop) and Nick McDevitt (UNC Asheville) in that exclusive club.Â
