BALTIMORE, M.D. -- The High Point University men's lacrosse team dropped a neutral site contest 21-11 to #12 Cornell at Calvert Hall on Sunday afternoon (Feb, 23).

"We came out flat, we did not have the ball for a good majority of the game", head coach Jon Torpey said. If you allow a great team to have a 70-30 advantage on possessions in 2020, with the shot clock, you are not going to do very well. We did not do a great job clearing the ball, we did not do a great job on the ground with 50-50 balls or at the faceoff x. There is a lot to fix, I still believe in our guys we have challenged them with an incredibly difficult schedule. We are learning a lot about ourselves in a tough time with more losses than wins but I like our group and I think we have the opportunity to get better and move forward."

High Point got on the board first as Tyler Hendrycks scored to put HPU up 1-0. Hendrycks picked up his eighth goal of the season. The freshman leads the Panthers in scoring with eight on the year. Following the opening HPU goal, Cornell went on a four-goal run. Sean Coughlin answered the run with a goal of his own to make it 4-2. The Big Red would score three straight goals. Ben Baker scored on a great play from x to make it 7-3. Mitchel Snyder scored with 22 seconds left in the first quarter, Snyder's second goal made it an 8-4 contest after one quarter had been completed.

The second quarter started with five Big Red goals, with six minutes left in the first half the momentum started to swing in HPU's favor. With 5:31 left in the second quarter, Baker scored his second goal of the day to make it 13-5. About three minutes later Tyler Stinson scored his first goal of the season. The man-up goal cut the Cornell lead to seven at 13-6. The game went to halftime with Cornell leading 13-6.

Following four Cornell goals in the third, Asher Nolting scored his first goal of the day to make it 17-7 in favor of Cornell. Nolting's goal and assist earlier on the day on Snyder's goal extended both his goal streak and his point streak. Nolting has recorded a point in every game he played in at HPU (34 games). His 34-game streak ranks 14th in the nation. He has 173 points during this steak. He is also currently on a 20-game goal streak with 50 goals scored during this stretch. Nolting is the SOCON's active leader in points.

The Panthers outscored the Big Red 4-3 in the fourth quarter. Stinson opened up the scoring for High Point scoring another man-up goal to make it 19-8. Stinson ended the day with two goals. Dalton Sulver scored another man-up goal for HPU he was assisted by Stinson. Sulver picked up his third goal of the season, he has scored in every game he has played in this season. Stinson ended the day with four points which tied him with Nolting for the team-high in points against Cornell. Coughlin scored his second goal of the day which made the score 21-10. It was another man-up goal for the Panthers. Devon Buckshot scored the last goal of the game to cut the deficit to ten. Buckshot scored his second goal of the season. He has gone consecutive games with a goal.

Parker Green had eight saves on the day, Antonio Arcona came in the game in the third quarter and had four saves in his outing.

Up Next: High Point stays on the road as they head to Charlottesville for a midweek showdown with the defending national champions Virginia on ESPNU at 5:00 on Tuesday (Feb 25.).
