The High Point University women's basketball team is right back on the court on Wednesday evening (Dec. 9) to host North Carolina Wesleyan College at 6 p.m., just two days after the Panthers picked up their first win of the season.
 

Matchup History

  • Wednesday is the second meeting between High Point and North Carolina Wesleyan, with the first coming as the season opener in 2017.
  • The Panthers took that meeting 111-54 in the seventh 100-point game of HPU's Division I history.
  • The 111 points are the second-most the Purple and White have scored in the D1 era of HPU women's basketball and the 57-point winning margin is tied for the third-largest victory.
 

Across the Bench

  • NC Wesleyan is 2-0 on the year and is also playing Wednesday on short rest after the Battling Bishops stifled Triad-foe UNCG 52-37 on Monday.
  • NCWC held the Spartans to just 18.1% from the floor and allowed only 13 field goals while collecting 64 rebounds for the second time in as many games this season.
  • Wesleyan is led by Artina J. Trader, in her 12th season as the head coach. She has produced 11 All-USA South players and 29 Academic All-Conference selections.
  • The Battling Bishops are led offensively by senior Myrayna Watkins, who averages 11.0 points per game. Four other Wesleyan players average 8.0 PPG or more, with seniors Kayla Johnson and Cydney Nichols tied for second on the team with an average of 8.5 PPG.
  • Junior Javana Jones came down with an impressive 16 rebounds in Monday's win over UNCG and Watkins is second on the team in rebounding with an average of 10.0 boards per game to give her an average of a double-double.

Last Time Out

High Point picked up its first win of the season on Monday, defeating North Carolina Central 87-65. All five starters scored in double digits, led by junior Jordan Edwards with 23. Redshirt sophomore Jenson Edwards was right behind her with 18 and snagged 10 rebounds as well to record her first double-double of the season.
 

The Panther Five

All five starters on Monday scored in double-digits - a feat HPU hasn't accomplished since Feb. 22, 2014, in an 82-75 victory over UNC Asheville. The Edwards' led the way with 23 for Jordan and 18 for Jenson, followed by junior Skyler Curran with 16, freshman Claire Wyatt with 11, and senior Chyna McMichel with 10.
 

Foremost Facilitator

Jordan Edwards leads the conference in assists per game, dishing out an average of 6.5 helpers each contest, which puts her in the top-15 of the country.
 

Monday's Millis Milestone

The Panthers picked up their 200th Division I victory at the Millis Center on Monday after making the jump to D1 prior to the 1999-2000 season.
 

A Better EDucation

Jenson and Jordan Edwards are both in the top-five in the Big South in two different assist categories. Jordan leads the Big South in assists per game with 6.5 while Jenson sits in third with an average of 4.0 APG. Jenson is currently second in the conference in assist to turnover ratio with a 2.4 mark while Jordan is fifth with a ratio of 1.3, making High Point the only team in the conference with two players in the top-five in assists.
 

Getting Their Money's Worth

HPU took 40 free throws on Monday and converted on 30 of them. That's tied for the second-most attempts in school history and four shy of matching the record for makes. Nationally, the 30 makes are the sixth-most attempts in all of Division I.
 

Up at the Top

Curran is tied for the lead in the conference in scoring with an average of 19.0 points per game through the first three games of the season. Teammate Jordan Edwards is close behind her in fourth with an average of 16.5 PPG.
 

Home Sweet Home

The Panthers are in the midst of a six-game homestand, with Wednesday's game being number three of the series. The stretch will last almost through the rest of the calendar year, including the first weekend of conference play against UNC Asheville on Dec. 19 and 20.
 

Cleaning the Glass

Curran is currently fourth in the conference and 57th in the country in rebounds per game, coming down with an average of 10.3 each contest. Looking at defensive rebounds only, she leads the conference and is eighth in the nation with an average of 9.7 DRPG.
 

Double-Double Trouble

Jenson Edwards picked up her first double-double of the season on Monday (18 pts, 10 reb.) to join Curran as the only Panthers with double-doubles this season and bringing their career totals up to three and six, respectively.
 

Letting it Fly

After breaking the program record for three-pointers made in a single season last year, the Panthers continue to fire from deep, entering Monday in the top-60 in the country for triples per game with an average of 8.0 per game.
