High Point University men's basketball team travels to Williamsburg to face William & Mary on Saturday (Dec. 19) in its' second to last non-conference game of the season. HPU will take on The Tribe at 2:00 and the game will be available to watch on FloHoops ($$$). It will also be available on the High Point Panther Radio Network for no cost where "Voice of The Panthers" Daron Vaught will be on the call. Coverage will start at 1:50 PM.
Matchup History
- HPU is 4-5 against William & Mary since becoming a D-1 program in 1999.
- Tubby Smith is 1-2 against William & Mary all-time as a head coach.
- Saturday's matchup marks the eighth time the two teams have faced each other in the last nine years.
Across the Bench
- After dropping their opening contest to Old Dominion, The Tribe is on a roll and have won two in a row. William & Mary will be playing its' third game of the week after beating George Washington 85-84 in overtime on Monday, and a win over Hampton 75-58 on Wednesday.
- The game against High Point is William & Mary's lone home non-conference game this season.
- Luke Loewe leads the Tribe in scoring, the senior from Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin averages 20 points a game. He scored the game-winner against George Washington in overtime on Monday and scored 20 in the Hampton win on Wednesday.
- HPU's nonconference slate has featured teams that are very efficient from behind the arc, William & Mary is another one of those teams. The Tribe is averaging a 44.1 three-point percentage which ranks them ninth in the nation.
- The Tribe is led by Dane Fischer, Fischer won an impressive 21 games in his first season with the Tribe a season ago.
Panther Notes
Always Wright
- John-Michael Wright has led HPU in scoring in four of their five games this season. The sophomore has scored 20 points in a game in four out of five games. Wright is averaging 22 points per game, which ranks him 17th in the nation in scoring.
Wait, there's Elmore
- Lydell Elmore is averaging 12.2 points per game and has shown tremendous scoring ability this season. He is on a three-game streak of scoring double digits. He led HPU in scoring on Saturday with 18 and nearly recorded a double-double as he brought in nine rebounds.
Da Da Da, Da Da Da
- Ahmil Flowers continues to impress the freshman put down a dunk on Sunday against UNC Asheville that gained national attention as the posterizing jam was number three on top plays on SportsCenter on Snapchat.
Take it to the House
- Jaden House has been outstanding for HPU off of the bench this season. House scored 19 points off of the bench this week in High Point's first conference series of the year. In 22 minutes off of the bench on Saturday (12/12). House also brought in three rebounds while recording a steal. On Sunday (12/13), House scored double digits for the first time of his High Point career, scoring 11 points off of the bench in 30 minutes played.
Panther Dunk Counter
- Over the course of the entire 2019-20 season, the Panthers totaled 24 dunks. After only five games, the Panthers already have 15 jams on this season. Elmore has nine total after having seven over the weekend against UNC Asheville. Elmore has recorded at least one dunk in the last four games.
