Curran Named Big South Preseason Player of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Big South Conference announced women's basketball preseason honors and the results of the annual preseason poll on Tuesday morning (Nov. 10), with High Point University junior Skyler Curran headlining the list as the conference's Preseason Player of the Year.

Curran was second in Player of the Year voting last season, finishing behind teammate Camryn Brown. She was named First Team All-Big South - High Point's only returning All-Big South player. Curran picked up four Big South Player of the Week nods a season ago, in addition to being named College Sports Madness' Player of the Week in the Big South four times as well.

She totaled five double-doubles in 2019-20 and is one of only four returning players in the conference to score 30+ points in a single game. Curran finished third in scoring in the Big South last season (16.9) and 10th in rebounding (6.5), one of only two players in the conference to finish in the top 10 in both categories. She also made waves on the national leaderboards, sitting in the top 40 in the nation for three-pointers made and triples per game.

In the Preseason Poll, HPU was slated to finish third - the same spot that the Panthers finished last season. The Panthers garnered three first-place votes to finish with a total of 104 points in the poll, three points behind second-place Radford with 107 points (two first-place votes). First-place votes received 11 points, followed by 10 points for second-place, etc. Campbell was predicted to finish atop the conference for the second year in a row, totaling 112 points in the poll and the remaining six first-place votes.
