Panthers close out High Point Invitational with Two Games on Sunday

The High Point Panthers wrap up the High Point Invitational by playing two games on Sunday. The Panthers will play Kennesaw State at Noon and then will play in the last game of the tournament against Furman at 4:30

The Panthers
 
Instant Impact
 
HPU's freshmen (Kaley Rammelsberg, Annie Sullivan, and Maria Miggins) have been an immediate source of scoring early in the season, with three freshmen in the top five for kills on the year. 
 
Freshman of the Week
 
Maria Miggins had a successful first week as a panther taking home Big South Freshman of the Week honors after her opening weekend. Miggins is setting the standard with a conference-best 94 assists so far this season.
 
Block Party
The Panthers continue their tradition of strong defense this season with a 3.25 blocks per set average, which leads the Big South Conference.
 
Can You Dig it?
 
Junior Abby Bottomley continues to anchor the defense with 52 digs. Her 5.53 average per set is currently second best in the Big South
 
 
The Owls
• Kennesaw State had a big win in their home opener. A 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech
• The Owls have a young roster with 10 underclassmen on their 15-player roster.
• Kennesaw State was picked to finish second in the Atlantic Sun preseason coaches' poll.
• Atlantic Sun preseason setter of the year Lexi Broadwater and preseason All- Conference selection Lauren Chastang lead the Owls into the tournament.
 
The Paladins
• Furman is 0-3 after opening the season in a tournament hosted by The University of Virginia
• The Paladins are led by redshirt junior Nicole Mack, who excels offensively and defensively. Thus far Mack has recorded a team-best 35 kills while also contributing
a team-leading 36 digs
• The Paladins feature five upperclassmen on what is a young roster of twelve.
 
 Up Next:
The Panthers travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Ameritas Players Challenge. HPU will play a double header on Friday, September 13, 2019 first against #2 Nebraska at 1:00 and then will compete in a match up against Loyola Marymount that is scheduled for 6:00.
