Gold Strikes First For Panthers Against Campbell

  • Sophomore Carsyn Gold scored in the 20th minute to put the Panthers up 1-0. Gold's goal would decide the game, and led High Point to their first Big South Conference win.
  • Talia Klimes recorded her first shut out of the year in the Panthers 1-0 win over Campbell. Klimes had recorded 4 saves in the contest, keeping the Fighting Camels off the board for the entire night. 
High Point, NC- The Panthers picked up their first Big South conference win of the season against Campbell 1-0. The game winning goal came from sophomore Carsyn Gold in the 20th minute. Gold recorded her first assist of the year in her last time out, she followed up that performance by scoring her first goal of the year tonight against Campbell. Gold was assisted by Chloe Le Franc.
 
"I couldn't be happier for our girls, they've been working really hard for this moment." Head coach Brandi Fontaine said. "This was a huge win for us, this was a key win for that we needed to get, especially to build our confidence. We have been battling through some tough games lately so to get this win, it will give us confidence going into the rest of the conference games, it could not have come at a better time.
 
After a goal early in the first half, High Point was able to limit the Fighting Camels to only 4 shots on goal. The Panthers withstood constant pressure from Campbell, the Panthers stopped 4 Campbell corners. It was another strong performance from Talia Klimes in goal, she saw 4 shots on goal and had 4 saves. It was Klimes' and High Point's first shutout of the year. High Point's defense was able to shutout a Campbell team that is top 25 nationally in assists per game, points per game, and total assists on the season. 
 
HPU recorded one goal in the contest, they shot 12 times. Chloe Le Franc, Chloe Winn, Juliette Vidal, Emma Schossler, and Carsyn Gold led the team in shots each with 2 shots.  Le Franc had the lone assist in the game.
 
The Panthers picked up their first conference win and remain undefeated in conference play as they head to Spartanburg on Saturday for another Big South Matchup against USC Upstate at 5:00.
