High Point Prepares for Wildcat Classic

HPU takes the trip to southern North Carolina to Davidson College for the Wildcat Classic. The field consists of Wofford, Jacksonville, Davidson, and High Point. The first game of the weekend for High Point is against Wofford on Friday at 4:30 pm at John M. Belk Arena.

The Panthers 

Winning Ways

High Point comes into the Wildcat Classic with a three-game win streak. The streak started in Nebraska against preseason Summit League favorite Denver in a 3-0 win for HPU. Rounding out their trip to Nebraska, the Panthers beat Omaha in 5 sets. High Point comes to Belk Arena after winning last time out against triad rival UNCG, sweeping the Spartans 3-0.

Big South Player of the Week as a Freshman

Sullivan received Big South Player of the Week honors as a freshman on Monday, September 16th. Sullivan posted a .302 hitting percentage with 48 kills (3.69 per set) and 53.0 points (4.08) with 8.0 blocks in 13 sets played across four matches. She hit .452 with 17 kills in a win over Denver, and followed with 18 kills and three blocks in a victory over Nebraska-Omaha. Sullivan also hit .435 against Loyola Marymount. 

Playing the Hits 

The Panthers have 3 players in the top ten for hitting percentage in the Big South Conference. Kaley Rammelsberg is 10th with a percentage of .255, Gabrielle Idlebird is 9th with a percentage of .259, Annie Sullivan is 7th with a percentage of .281.

The Terriers

Wofford is 5-6 on the season. Senior Catie Cronister leads the terriers with 118 kills on the season. Cronister averages 3.03 kills per set. Cronister was named pre-season all-conference in the SOCON.

The Dolphins

Jacksonville enters the weekend 2-8, with wins over Chattanooga and Belmont. Senior Mallory Mattingly leads the Dolphins with 145 kills on the season. Mattingly averages 3.45 kills per set.

The Wildcats

Davidson, the hosts this weekend are 5-5 on the season. Hattie Rodriguez leads the Wildcats in kills 107. Rodriguez averages 3.34 kills per set. The Cat's roster also features freshman Madeline Wynn who has been named A-10 Rookie of the week already this season. Wynn has 65 kills on the year.
 

The Panthers are in action first on Friday at 4:30 against Wofford. On Saturday the Panthers play two, HPU plays Jacksonville at 10 am and Davidson at 6:00 pm.
