Box Score LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – The High Point University volleyball team closed out the Ameritas Players Challenge against Denver University with a win:
25-17, 25-20, and 25-21.
The Panthers (3-7) began set one strong after Freshman
Annie Sullivan started the Purple & White off with the first kill of the game. The Panthers never gave up the lead in set one. The Purple & White went on three 3-0 point runs against the Pioneers, where Freshmen
Megan Kratzer and
Kaley Rammelsberg led the team with four kills. Along with those points, Sophomore
Gabrielle Idlebird and Sullivan collected three kills, while Freshman
Maggie Salley collected two kills.
The Panthers continued their strong showing in set two by taking an early 4-0 lead. Freshman
Annie Sullivan came in and had a total of seven kills to lead the Panthers to a 25-20 victory in set two. In set three the Panthers fell behind the first time the whole match as Denver came out with a 4-1 lead. The Pioneers went on a small run, but then the Purple & White rallied back to tie it up 10-10. Sullivan then started a 3-0 run with a kill down the line to swing the momentum back to High Point. Denver tried their best to overcome the deficit; however, after multiple attack errors, the Panthers took advantage to take the win.
"Today was a great team win. We've been waiting for a complete effort and we got one today", said Coach
Ryan Meek. "I think the girls did a great job of rebounding from two tough outings yesterday and they deserve all the credit for today's win. Now we'll travel to Omaha and recharge for a tough Omaha team tomorrow on their home floor."
The Purple & White are back in action tomorrow at Baxter Arena, where they will square off against the Mavericks of the University of Nebraska of Omaha at 2 p.m. est. to finish off their road trip.
